Things To Do and Places To Visit around Gorphwysfa
There a many attractions to visit locally in North Wales including castles, steam railways and gardens, or you can enjoy activities such as walking, mountain biking, or a visit to an adventure based attraction. Alternatively, you can just relax and enjoy the beautiful local scenary.
There are plenty of castles for which Wales is famous including Conwy Castle where the Conwy Valley meets the sea, and the Welsh fortesses of Dolwyddelan Castle in the mountains. Other castles such as Caernarfon and Harlech are within easy reach.
Steam railway enthusiasts are spoilt for choice with the Ffestiniog Railway, Welsh Highland Railway, and Snowdon Mountain Railway and others in the area. There is also a model railway in the garden at Gorphwysfa!
Betws-y-Coed is an ideal base for walkers, as there are walks from the door in to the surrounding hills and forest where you can explore the lakes and enjoy the stunning views down to the valley floor, and across to the higher peaks of Snowdonia. Snowdon and the other mountains are nearby and can be reached by a regular bus service for those without a car.
Mountain bikers are well catered for with two of the best mountain bike trails in the country a few miles away at the Marin Trail and Penmachno Trail.
For those wanting an adrenaline rush try one of the adventure attractions in the area such as Surf Snowdonia, Zip World, Go Below or Treetop Adventure.
The village of Betws-y-Coed has many shops including well known names such as Cotswold, Stewart Cunningham and Hawkshead. There is a wide selection of restaurants, cafes and pubs where you can eat out in the evening.
You can also visit the North Wales coast including the victorian resort of Llandudno with it's wide promenade and unspoilt seafront.
